The Benefits of Goji Berries

Because of the rising popularity of superfoods,  dried goji berries have been fruits of interest to many scientists and consumers. Known also as Lycium barbarum, goji berries were originally grown in Asia. For at least 2,000 years, goji berries have been consumed as a food supplement and a medicinal herb. Dried goji berries are especially sought after because of their concentrated flavor and long shelf life. They  may, according to some evidence,  provide numerous  health benefits:

Support the immune system. Dried goji berries are full of antioxidants that fight inflammation and free radicals. These berries have vitamin C and vitamin A, just like raspberries and blueberries. They are said to prevent disease and issues like coughs, colds, and even cancer by strengthening the immune system.


Provide eye protection. Goji berries may  reduce the risk of developing glaucoma and other eye diseases associated with aging. Dried and fresh goji berries contain zeaxanthin and other antioxidants to prevent damage from oxidative stress, UV rays, and free radicals.


Make skin healthier. Beta carotene, a phytochemical that enhances skin health, is found in dried goji berries. It’s a common ingredient in beauty creams to delay aging, enhance skin health, reduce the effects of UV rays, and reduce irritation of the skin.
Shield against cancer. Carotenoids, vitamin C, and zeaxanthin in dried goji berries fight cells that cause cancer. They decrease inflammation, aids in eliminating dangerous substances, and retard the growth of tumors.


Protect the liver. In Chinese medicine, Goji berries have been consumed to treat diseases of the liver.


Enhance sleep, and helps anxiety and depression. If you have sleep deprivation and an unstable mood, dried Goji berries may help you. These berries may also help with digestive health, athletic performance, concentration, calmness, and energy levels.


Regulates blood glucose levels. Diabetics may benefit from dried Goji berries. These tiny morsels help control the release of glucose into your blood. They  are said to balance sugar levels in the blood and increase levels of good cholesterol (HDL) as well.


Incorporate dried Goji berries into your daily diet by adding them to your cereals, yogurt, smoothies, salads, and oatmeal. You can also keep them in your pocket for quick snacking throughout the day. You should note that Goji berries can be expensive, depending on whether they are processed, organic, or natural.
